Kampala, Uganda – In an unprecedented move, the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni, is poised to inaugurate the highly anticipated Network for Education and Multidisciplinary Research Africa (NEMRA) conference next week at Makerere University.
Scheduled from March 26th to 27th, 2024, at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda, the conference marks the inaugural All African Multidisciplinary Research Conference organized by NEMRA.
As confirmed through her aides earlier this week, Maama Museveni will play a pivotal role in officially opening the two-day event, signifying the government’s commitment to fostering multidisciplinary research and its applications in policy formulation and community development.
Under the overarching theme, “Develop Research for Policy Formulation and Community Development,” the conference is set to attract a diverse array of researchers, from seasoned experts to budding scholars, hailing from both local and international arenas. Leveraging a hybrid format at the College of Business and Management Sciences (COBAMS), attendees will have the flexibility to participate in person or virtually, ensuring widespread engagement.
Dr. Juliet Kyayesiimira, Managing Director of NEMRA, underscores the significance of the conference, stating, “This event represents a culmination of NEMRA’s tireless efforts to promote collaboration, networking, and the dissemination of research findings across Africa. By convening stakeholders from academia, government, and civil society, we aim to showcase the tangible impact of research on shaping policy agendas and driving sustainable community development.”
Featuring an array of sub-themes spanning critical disciplines such as Urbanization, Youth Empowerment, Environmental Sustainability, and Health Care, the conference promises to be a melting pot of ideas and insights aimed at addressing the continent’s most pressing challenges.
In addition to scholarly presentations, the conference agenda includes entertainment segments curated by the Makerere University Department of Performing Arts and Film, adding a touch of cultural richness to the academic proceedings.
Reflecting on the transformative potential of multidisciplinary research, Dr. Kyayesiimira emphasizes, “As we navigate the complexities of the modern world, it becomes increasingly evident that solutions to our most pressing challenges lie at the intersection of various disciplines. By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge exchange, we can unlock new pathways to progress and prosperity for African communities.”
With an impressive lineup of keynote speakers and panelists, including renowned researchers and thought leaders from Uganda and beyond, the conference is poised to catalyze meaningful dialogue and forge new partnerships in the pursuit of sustainable development.
Registration for the conference is now open, offering participants the opportunity to engage in vibrant discussions, network with peers, and contribute to shaping the future of multidisciplinary research in Africa.

This sounds a very important conference if well focused and coordinated. I hope and trust that it will start to reorient the minds of Ugandan researchers and academics to start focusng on research that upholds the problems and challenges that we face rather than other priorities set by sponsors whose agenda does not necessarily support or rhyme with our priorities as has been commonly the case.
