ResearchFinds News (RFN) is the first-of-its-kind medium and the largest science communication news platform in Uganda and the region. Founded in 2019 and based in Kampala, RFN operates at the heart of one of East Africa's most intellectually vibrant university districts serving audiences across Uganda, the African continent, and the global research community.
We are a digital-first news organisation built at the intersection of journalism and science. Using our proprietary Newsification model, we transform complex scientific research findings into accurate, accessible news stories bridging the gap between academia, policy, and practice. Our team combines the analytical rigour of trained researchers with the storytelling craft of seasoned journalists to produce news that is simultaneously rigorous and consequential.
We do not simply report on research — we give it a voice, a platform, and an audience it could never reach through academic journals alone.
Our Mission
We believe scientific knowledge should be shared with both academic and non-academic audiences — that the PhD student at Makerere and the farmer in rural Africa both deserve access to the discoveries that affect their lives.
We believe research with real-world implications should be made actionable — that findings should not sit in a thesis gathering dust, but should inform the decisions of ministers, investors, health workers, and communities.
And we believe that Africa's scholarly voices deserve to be elevated, heard, and taken seriously — both at home and on the global stage. That conviction drives everything we publish.
ResearchFinds News does one thing no other news platform in East Africa does: we generate 24-hour news from research findings to promote public understanding of complex scientific outputs. We call this "Newsification" — translating jargon-heavy academic research into clear, compelling, publicly accessible news stories. Every day, important discoveries are made across Uganda and Africa that never reach the people who need them most. ResearchFinds News changes that by combing academic rigor with journalistic flair. Our editorial team understands research methodology, peer review, and scholarly citation — and how to write a lead paragraph that a busy reader will actually finish.
We bring research findings to the forefront of decision-making. Our coverage is read by government officials, university administrators, and international development organisations.
RFN connects academia, industry, and the public through open science — making knowledge freely available rather than gatekeeping it behind subscription walls.
We give platform to early-career researchers, women scholars, scientists from underrepresented institutions, and investigators working on issues mainstream media ignores.
Breaking and developing stories drawn directly from new research, studies, and academic findings across all disciplines.
In-depth profiles of Uganda's and Africa's most distinguished researchers whose work is quietly changing the world.
Long-form conversations with researchers, policymakers, and thought leaders that go deeper than a news story allows.
Commentary and analysis from Uganda's leading academic and professional voices on the issues research illuminates.
Accessible, deeply reported features that break down complex scientific and social phenomena for general audiences.
Video content bringing research stories to life for audiences who engage first through the screen.
ResearchFinds News offers a range of services to researchers, institutions, universities, NGOs, government agencies, and private sector organisations that want their findings to reach wider audiences.

Ivan Tibenkana
ReporterOn the ground finding the research that matters — turning the raw material of scholarly discovery into journalism that informs, challenges, and occasionally disrupts. Curious, rigorous, and stubbornly committed to getting it right in a media environment where science reporting is far too often superficial.
