US Study Reveals COVID-19 could lead to Kidney failure

KAMPALA: A study in the United States of America has discovered that the kidney problems could become yet another long COVID symptom patients experience weeks after their infection.

The New research published by studyfinds.org has found that people with long COVID have an increased risk of developing kidney damage and kidney failure.

The National Kidney Foundation estimates that 90 percent of people with dysfunctional kidneys aren’t aware of it. Kidney disease is one of America’s leading causes of death and affects 37 million people in the country.

“Our findings emphasize the critical importance of paying attention to kidney function and disease in caring for patients who have had COVID-19,” says senior author Ziyad Al-Aly, MD, an assistant professor of medicine at the Washington University School of Medicine in a university release.

According to information accessed by our ResearchFinds news desk, currently, there are over 1,350,000 positive COVID-19 cases globally. Since the pandemic began in 2020, Uganda has registered 164,069 cases, 3,596 deaths, and 100,205 have reportedly recovered.
