Milestone 1: NAMSAR Workshop Review
On September 12, 2024, UCAA’s Deputy Director General, Mrs. Olive Birungi Lumonya, closed a workshop aimed at reviewing the National Aeronautical and Maritime Search and Rescue (NAMSAR) plan. She highlighted the importance of the NAMSAR plan, not only as a regulatory requirement under ICAO and IMO but also as a humanitarian duty to aid persons in distress within Uganda’s borders. She urged for a comprehensive database of resources and agreements with neighboring states to enhance Uganda’s search and rescue capabilities.

Milestone 2: Girls in Aviation Day Celebration
In partnership with Women in Aviation International, UCAA hosted 100 girls from various schools on September 11, 2024, as part of the “Girls in Aviation Day.” The event encouraged young girls to explore aviation careers beyond being pilots. UCAA Director General, Fred K. Bamwesigye, and Deputy Director General, Ms. Olive Birungi Lumonya, delivered inspiring talks to empower the girls, followed by a tour of Entebbe International Airport and Uganda Airlines’ Airbus.

Milestone 3: A New Abuja Route for Uganda Airlines
UCAA celebrated Uganda Airlines’ new Abuja route, and Director General Fred Bamwesigye said this was a thrilling addition to its expanding network with so much potential for business and tourism. This milestone marks a significant leap for Uganda’s aviation industry, paving the way for increased trade and business between Uganda and Nigeria.

Milestone 4: Joint Safety Culture Workshop
UCAA Director General Fred K. Bamwesigye opened a three-day Joint Safety Culture Workshop on September 10-12, 2024. This workshop, hosted at Speke Resort Munyonyo, brought together over 100 aviation experts from across Africa, focusing on safety culture and sharing experiences to enhance safety management practices.

Milestone 5: Transport Logistics and Procurement Career Expo
On September 6, 2024, UCAA participated in a transport logistics and procurement career expo at Makerere University Business School. The event connected industry professionals and students, offering insights into the latest trends in logistics and procurement, and exploring potential career paths within the industry.

Milestone 5: 51st Air Services Licensing Meeting
UCAA hosted the 51st Board Air Services Licensing Committee meeting at Protea Hotel, Kololo, to review applications for the grant/renewal of Air Service Licenses. Misk Air Limited, Premier Services East Africa Ltd, and others sought license renewals, while Arasus Aviation Ltd applied to commence operations, reflecting the steady growth of Uganda’s aviation sector.

Milestone 7: Maendeleo Dialogue Participation
At the Maendeleo Dialogue, UCAA shared insights on the evolving trends in air navigation services, including the transition to satellite-based navigation systems and direct routing technology. These advancements have enhanced the efficiency, safety, and environmental impact of air travel in Uganda.

Milestone 8: Annex 6 Workshop on Consumer Protection
UCAA participated in a five-day capacity-building workshop on Annex 6 – Regulations on Consumer Protection of the Yamoussoukro Decision for the Eastern African Region. Held in collaboration with AFCAC and COMESA, the workshop focused on enhancing service delivery in the African aviation sector and improving air travel across the continent.

Milestone 9: Aviation Sports Gala 2024
On August 31, 2024, UCAA kicked off the third edition of the Aviation Sports Gala, hosted by the Uganda Professional Pilots Association. The event brought industry players together to compete, network, and celebrate teamwork, showcasing the unique bond within the aviation community.

Milestone 10: MUST Career Fair
On August 28, 2024, UCAA participated in the MUST Career Fair at Mbarara University of Science and Technology. The fair, themed “Building Bridges to the Future,” offered students career guidance and insight into the aviation industry, enhancing connections between academic institutions and industry leaders.
