Makerere, Uganda – Makerere University is set to host its annual Research and Innovations Week from Tuesday, April 8th, to Thursday, April 10th, 2025.
This highly anticipated event will host President Yoweri Museveni as Chief Guest, and he will be accompanied by his wife, Hon Janet Kataha Museveni, who is also the Minister of Education and Sports.
The highly anticipated event will showcase groundbreaking research and innovations that are shaping Uganda’s development, powered by the transformative Makerere University Research and Innovation Fund (Mak-RIF).
With funding from the government, Mak-RIF has supported over 1,300 multidisciplinary projects, driving progress in key sectors and propelling Uganda toward its goal of achieving middle-income status.
These projects have been led by both graduate students and staff of Makerere University who are managed under MaK-RIF, which receives close to Shs. 30 billion annually from the central government.

Established as a strategic initiative, Mak-RIF funds research that generates credible evidence to inform national priorities, offering practical solutions to pressing challenges. Since its inception, the fund has had a remarkable impact, supporting projects across diverse fields like health, agriculture, technology, and governance.
By bridging the gap between academia and development, this initiative ensures research findings translate into actionable outcomes, fostering socio-economic transformation in Uganda.
